Raw Feeding
At Oriental Shorthair Abbey we are passionate about providing our cats and kittens the healthiest food available RAW! All of our Oriental Shorthairs are fed a premium raw meat only diet that we make ourselves using human grade meat, including pasture-raised chickens from our own family farm and raw meat from Simply Rawsome and local retailers. We adore that families of Oriental Shorthair kittens still feed them raw. We are pleased to assist you with planning and learning! We will give copies of Meghan Leah Waals' book "So You Want to Raw Feed Your Cat" to every kitten family that wants to learn more. We are aware that not everyone feels comfortable feeding their kittens raw, and we are okay with our kitten families using premium canned food in place of raw. However, we do not advise using any dry kibble. The fundamentals of feeding your cat only human-grade, RAW (fresh or previously frozen) meat in the following proportions: 10% bone, 10% organ, and 80% muscular meat. As long as it balances out over time, we occasionally employ entire liver or all kidney, but the organ part should be half liver and half other secreting organ. We grind our meat (including bone-in ingredients) for convenience of mixing and keeping, but pieces or complete items such as wings or whole chicks can also be used.

Dry Food
Our Oriental shorthair breeding or nursing moms and kittens have Fromm dry kitten food down at all times once the kittens are old enough so they may eat when they please. This free-choice feeding approach supports the high caloric demands of nursing mothers and ensures growing kittens can fuel their rapid development, maintain steady energy levels, and develop strong, healthy bodies without the stress of scheduled meals. We monitor intake closely and always provide fresh water alongside their meals to promote optimal hydration and digestion.
